Aaron Slater - UK singer/songwriter

Son of Stackridge frontman ‘Mutter’, Aaron has been a singer/songwriter for 11 years, recorded demos for Interscope Records, invited to collaborate with Mark Owen and now signed to FiberlineAudio.com

Aaron Slater is a 26 year-old British singer/songwriter. Born and raised in Yeovil in Somerset, the last 7 years of his life have been spent living in West London, Bath and now Bristol. During which time, he picked up a guitar, started writing his own music and lyrics, performed live all over the country.

Being championed by producer Steve Kitch (ex-Omnium, Ninja Tune) right from the very start, the very best of these originals are now being recorded, mixed and mastered in his personal studio. Steve can quite rightly take credit for creating the unique sound which bring the tracks to life.

In a galaxy (not) so very far away, a toddler carrying a bucket of Star Wars figures, dreaming of joining the SAS and ****ing on his dad's guitar amps, was to become the composer of this site's music. Hardly obvious potential for a young singer/songwriter, but with hindsight here was a child brimming with imagination, a creative eye and good breeding.

Born Aaron David Slater in Yeovil, a small town in the south-west of England, life started during the heatwave of 1978. As the only child of artist Linda Slater and musician Michael Slater, creative genes were well and truly passed down the line. Linda had always painted and specialised in animal portraits and horses, eventually earning her a request from horse-rider Virginia Leng.

Michael 'Mutter' Slater had just spent the decade as the frontman in Stackridge - an eccentric cult Bristol band who earned a reputation as the most entertaining live band in England. After touring all over Europe, producing albums with George Martin and sharing the bill at Wembley Stadium with Elton John and The Beach Boys, Mutter made a break from the music business.

Aaron formed the band Monicker with drummer Wayne Duncan in the Autumn of 1997. Demos produced in a farmhouse near Sherborne merged bright Britpop melodies with dark synth undertones and fellow musicians in the area *****ed up their ears. Namely Chris White and Aaron Ashby, who completed a healthy ensemble contributing delicate jazzy lead guitar and precocious bass playing respectively. As fresh vibrations left the rehearsal rooms, locals urged the new group to "keep the Yeovil-scene alive, man!".

Luckily local signed acts Elliott Green and Electrasy overheard rehearsals at Small World studios and predicted better things. A brief mini-tour with Eliott Green ensued along with a debut performance at Birmingham University. Support gigs continued throughout the next year and far flung solitary jaunts across the country. From Plymouth University to Durham University, many crazy stor of all-night drinking sessions with Mexican gringos, grown men slowdancing with chairs and angry blokes with full pints balanced on their heads. The drug-fuelled madness of the tour was realised, but as long as they were away from Yeovil, Monicker didn't give a ****!

From Crowded House to Madonna, comparisons vocally to Joni Mitchell and wild statements such as "it's The Beatles crossed with Fatboy Slim". So then, by visiting this site you now have the chance to listen and make up your own mind...
